অতীতে বাংলাদেশে ষাঁড়ের লড়াই একটি প্রসিদ্ধ খেলারূপে প্রচলন ছিল। লড়াই করার জন্য ষাঁড় গরু আলাদাভাবে লালন পালন করা হতো। এর দ্বারা হাল চাষ বা অন্য কোন ধরনের কাজ করা হতো না। ষাঁড়টিকে মোটাতাজা করা হতো শুধু লড়াই করার জন্য। শুকনো মৌসুমে গ্রামের বাজারে ঢোল পিটিয়ে ষাঁড়ের লড়াই দেখার আমন্ত্রন জানানো হতো। মাঠে ষাঁড়ের মালিকগণ তাদের ষঁড়গুলোকে বিভিন্ন রঙিন কাপড়, ঘুংগুর, দোয়াল দিয়ে গেঁথে নিয়ে আসতেন। দুদিকে দুজন রশি দিয়ে বেঁধে নিয়ে এসে দুপক্ষের ষাঁড়কে ছেড়ে দিয়ে সবাই মিলে ঢাক ঢোল পিটিয়ে ও বিভিন্ন তালে তালে গান করত। এভাবে উপস্থিত সকল ষাঁড়ের মধ্যে যে ষাঁড়টি প্রথম স্থান পেত তাকে পুরস্কার দেয়া হতো। সে পুরস্কার গরুর গলায় বেঁধে বাজারে বাজারে দেখানো হতো। বর্তমানে এই শৌখিন প্রথা বিলুপ্তির পথে
