More African countries report first novel coronavirus cases

Africa has seen its coronavirus cases pass the 1,000 mark this weekend. There are currently 1,198 confirmed cases of Covid-19, the continent’s Centre for Disease Control has announced. This even as Governments across Africa are rushing to reinforce measures to contain the spread of coronavirus, fearing that the fragile health systems will be swiftly overwhelmed if the disease spreads beyond the small number of cases confirmed on the continent. The number of coronavirus cases has surged past 300,000 globally with more than 13,000 deaths around the world and 92,000 recoveries.
