Voters in the UK went to the polls on Thursday for a general election, and the results have been coming in over the past few hours.
It looks like Prime Minister Theresa May’s Conservative Party will be losing seats…, but the biggest question is whether the Tories can win the 326 seats they need… to keep their majority in Parliament, which will help them in the Brexit negotiations in less than two weeks.
For the latest election results we have our Kim Jung-soo on the line. Jung Soo what can you tell us?
Daeun, first off,… the exit polls had suggested that the Conservative Party led by Theresa May would still be the largest party, but lose nearly 20 MPs.
And they had Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour party claiming 266, which would be a gain of 34 seats.
That led to speculation the UK is headed for a hung parliament,… and that’s not too far off what’s actually happening.
The seats started being declared at 11 PM and they’re almost all done now.
And as of 2 PM Korea time,… more than 6__ of the combined 650 seats have been declared.
The conservative party has claimed 294 seats or 45.2%.
Corbyn’s Labor Party trails with 250 seats or 38.5%.
The Scottish National Party led by Nicola Sturgeon has claimed 34 seats,… or 5.2%.
And in forth place is the Democratic Unionist Party, claiming just 10 seats.
At this rate it appears that the Conservative Party is sure to lose its majority. We will bring you more updates in our 18 newscast.
Back to you Daeun.
