SOCIAL gatherings of over six people in the UK will be banned from Monday, as new restrictions are announced.
People who break the rule of six — inside or outside — can be fined £100, doubling for each repeat offence up to £3,200.
This comes after the police demanded more powers to fine those breaking social distancing rules.
Elsewhere, many Brits travelling home from Greek islands will have to self-isolate following the regionalised quarantine rules put in place for Greece.
The rule takes effect from 4am on September 9 in England.
It comes as the UK has seen the number of reported coronavirus cases reach nearly 3,000 each day for the past two days.
