'UK cannot abandon the people of Hong Kong'

The ex-chairperson of the Hong Kong Democratic Party, Emily Lau, has told Sky News that the UK has responsibilities to the people there.

China has recently announced new national security legislation for Hong Kong that could threaten the city’s traditional freedoms.

The law is widely drafted to cover any act ‘to split the country, subvert state power, organise and carry out terrorist activities and other behaviours that seriously endanger national security’, according to Xinhua, China’s state news agency.
