Well MTN says it was business as usual in Nigeria today – following yesterday’s protest action. Groups of Nigerians under the banner of ‘flagship’ protested at MTNs offices in Abuja and Benin City against the xenophobic violence here at home. They handed over letters calling for an end to the attacks and warning of boycotts against MTN.
The company here has played down the protest, saying no one was injured and no ex patriates are being recalled. Reports from Lagos are quoting the Corporate Services Executive, Wale Goodluck, saying that if there are any attacks on its facilities it might be forced to close shop in Nigeria.
Reportedly around 6 thousand Nigerians work for the company and the livelihood of more than half a million more could be affected.
To discuss we’re joined by MTN South Africa spokesperson, Chris Maroleng
