It will take least 70 years for all children in Africa to have access to primary school education according to a report from UNESCO.
Sub-Saharan Africa is one of the worst affected regions– with Nigeria having the highest number of children without a primary school place. Kenya and Burkina Faso are also listed amongst the top ten .
Girls are still more likely to miss out on school than boys and this is more prevalent among disadvantaged, rural families.
We spoke to a teacher in the Nigerian city of Lagos and here is what she thinks needs to be done to improve the educational system on the continent.
