I stumbled upon a review of Lerruat Log Resort in Kajiado on Twitter and immediately started planning a trip. The photos were stunning and I was curious to find out more about the place.
Lerruat Log Resort is in Kumpa, a village located just after Kajiado town. It is less than two hours’ drive from the city center and the trip is scenic, especially once you hit the road past Kitengela town.
The hills and valleys along the road provide a breathtaking view and you get the feeling you are leaving the hustle and bustle of the city behind as you drive further away.
The resort is however off the road, a few kilometres after Kumpa town, and the uphill drive a bit of challenge. Drivers of four by four will enjoy the drive but if yours is a salon car then you will need to be extra careful.
The resort itself is really beautiful. It is built the middle of beautiful hills and valleys and the views from up is – simply put – spectacular.
I settled into my room and later went to the restaurant to sample what was on offer on the menu. I must admit the in-house chef is really good; he served me the best grilled chicken I have ever eaten for lunch. I also enjoyed some delicious fish fillets for dinner.
Later that evening, I went for a nature walk in the expansive resort and watched the sun setting on the hills and valleys of Kajiado.
Lerruat is your to-go place if you want a peaceful environment just outside the city to relax and reenergize yourself.
Besides the nature walk, you could also go biking within the resort. The resort also has conference halls for organizations and groups that are out for team-building.
Breathtaking view
As the name suggests, Lerruat Log Resort is built using rustic logs. Don’t be fooled though; the interior of the rooms and other facilities is top-notch.
I absolutely loved the ambiance of the double-room I booked into. It had this balcony that offered a breathtaking view of the adjacent hills and valleys.
The place however can get cold even during the day so you are advised to carry an extra travel blanket as well as leg warmers.
The other downside is that the phone network within the area is really crappy. You could take some comfort in the Wi-Fi connectivity. But then again, you don’t come all the way to a resort on the hills to browse the net, do you?
The rates are quite fair. A standard room goes for Sh8,500 (bed and breakfast per night for residents), Sh10,000 half board and Sh12,000 full board. A twin room is Sh12,000 for bed and breakfast, Sh15,500 half board and Sh18,500 full board.
There’s also a cottage that has two bedrooms which goes for Sh32,000 and can accommodate up to four people. The executive suite, which can host two people, goes for Sh 30,000.
