How Eastern Africa Construction Industry Plans to recover from COVID-19 Pandemic #EACEXPO2020

Since the onset of the corona virus pandemic in March, the construction sector in Eastern Africa is yet to see an industry boom.

The sector has experienced a recession in the first and second quarters of this year. Coupled with country lockdowns and postponement of construction activities, this certainly presents a less favorable outlook for the Eastern Africa construction industry.

However, there is a cause for optimism. Against this background, construction professionals across Eastern Africa can mark their calendars for the year’s biggest industry event – the Eastern Africa Construction Expo taking place virtually on the 24th -28th November 2020.

“Given the construction industry’s challenges faced over the corona virus pandemic period, the expo affords an opportunity to rethink challenges the industry is facing and map a positive way forward to recover, says Elijah Profits, Executive Director at Iron and Steel Africa Review.

“The expo is the East Africa’s construction industry’s largest virtual gathering of construction professionals, governments and learners. It provides unique opportunities for the industry as a whole 3000 exhibitors from 10 countries and 100,000 visitors from around the globe come together to do business, form and strengthen partnerships and learn from each other.”

Moreover, Profits explains that the expo is a chance for those attending to not only stake their claim in East Africa’s construction industry but also take a holistic stock of the industry and come up with solutions that benefit the entire construction value chain to ensure resilience.

Construction technology and new building methods remain the biggest disruptors for the construction industry. So, the latest industry technology will be on display and will feature the best building materials and smart city technology to see and experience.

Beyond technology, innovation and creativity, the industry’s current and future
workforce and leadership are expected to play a major role in order to operate
seamlessly in the growing industry set against the recovery from the pandemic.

Eastern Africa has a fast-growing young population and by providing them the opportunity to build and upskill fresh innovative talent, this will infuse fresh thinking into this sector. For that reason, the expo offers robust free workshop and training programmes for learners to boost professional development and skill building.

A truly African event, the Eastern African Construction attracts buyers, sellers, contractors and governments from 10 East African countries.
