Sweeping Promises have announced their third album, You Say I Romanticize, out Aug. 14 via Sub Pop. The follow-up to 2023’s Good Living Is Coming for You was recorded by guitarist Caufield Schnug and bassist/vocalist Lira Mondal in their Kansas home studio over 18 months, inviting their touring drummer Spenser Gralla to join them.
“Our new space is unwieldy and super reverberant, like our laboratory, and definitely impacts how we write,” Schnug said in a 2023 interview, with Mondal adding, “The fact that we’re able to come and go at will and we don’t have to set anything up or tear anything down is huge. I feel like that also facilitates quicker, more intuitive songwriting.” You can hear that in “Shooting Shadows,” their first single and opening track, which matches the punk urgency of their live shows.
