Nigeria’s U-17 women’s team, the Flamingos, now know the possible challenge awaiting them at the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco after Thursday’s draw in Zurich.
The draw, conducted at FIFA headquarters earlier today, May 21, placed the African representative occupying CAF Slot 1 in Group B alongside defending champions Korea DPR, Poland and Puerto Rico.
Nigeria have not yet secured qualification for the tournament, but the Flamingos could take that position if they successfully come through the African qualifiers.
For now, attention remains fixed on their second-round qualifying tie against Guinea.
Akeem Busari’s side arrived in Abidjan ahead of Saturday’s first leg, with the return fixture scheduled for the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne on 30 May.
Nigeria received a bye into the second round and must first see off Guinea to keep their World Cup hopes alive.
Should the Flamingos advance on aggregate, they will then face either Benin Republic or Sierra Leone in the final qualifying round for a place at Morocco 2026.
The prospect of facing DPR Korea, one of the strongest teams in women’s youth football, adds extra significance to the qualification campaign. Poland and tournament debutants Puerto Rico complete what promises to be a competitive group for Nigeria.
The 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup will run from 17 October to 7 November in Morocco, with 24 nations competing across six groups in the expanded tournament format.
