Six passengers, including four serving members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), were reportedly burnt to death in an auto crash along the Narehi area of Girei-Song Local Council of Adamawa State.

The tragic incident involved a military gun truck travelling from Gombi to Yola and a commercial Hummer bus conveying five passengers from Yola to Mubi.

The Adamawa State Police Command confirmed that four of the victims were NYSC members posted to the state.

Spokesperson for the command, SP Suleiman Yahaya Ngoroje, in a statement, said preliminary findings revealed that both vehicles were involved in a head-on collision, causing the commercial bus to somersault and burst into flames.

He said, “All five passengers aboard the Hummer bus were burnt to death after the vehicle caught fire following the collision. Preliminary identification reveals that four of the deceased were serving members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) posted to Adamawa State.

“The Command further confirmed that a military personnel attached to the military vehicle also lost his life as a result of the crash.”

Ngoroje added that police operatives, in collaboration with other emergency responders, promptly responded to the scene and evacuated the corpses to the Specialist Hospital, Yola, while efforts are ongoing to identify the remaining bodies and locate their families.
