OVER 100 schools across England and Wales are set to close early this week, as temperatures are expected to reach record highs for June.
A red weather warning for extreme heat is covering an area stretching across the South of England, the West Midlands, and Wales.

The Met Office has said “During the heatwave expected to affect a large part of England and Wales this week, the highlighted area now looks increasingly likely to see a two to three day period where maximum temperatures in the shade exceed 37 Celsius, perhaps rising to 38 to 40 Celsius in some places.”
152 schools across England and Wales have announced they will close or finish early for several days this week to protect pupils from extreme heat.
Children have been told they can wear PE kits rather than full school uniform in many institutions, which typically involves long trousers and blazers.
Schools across Wiltshire, Swindon and Gloucestershire have been significantly impacted by the move to close schools.

The Swindon Advertiser reports that the White Horse Federation, which oversees over 30 schools in the area, would close entirely on Wednesday and Thursday.
This leaves 11,000 pupils in 24 primary schools, four secondary schools, and two SEN schools without education as the heatwave continues.
Hampshire, where temperatures are anticipated to hit the UK’s all-time high of 40.3C degrees is closing multiple schools in the region.
Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, Oxfordshire, and London also face a number of school closures.
Currently, there is no legal maximum temperature for classrooms in the UK, and closing schools due to hot weather is unusual in England and Wales.
A spokesperson from the Department for Education told The Sun: “In terms of who decides if a school stays open or closed, it’s up to the school rather than the local authority.”
However, new advice from the Department asks schools and early years settings to “review actions to manage heat for all pupils and staff” when a red alert is indicated.
Heatwave conditions have continued to impact towns and cities across the UK last night, with thousands witnessing lightning strikes and unexpected downpours.
