UK: LONDON FASHION WEEK: AMAYA ARZUAGA SHOW

English/Nat

London Fashion Week took on a Spanish flavour on Tuesday with Amaya Arzuaga’s collection.

It’s the first show in London for the Spanish designer.

And it’s hoped that the combination of styles she uses will make an impact as big as some of London’s own young design talents.

Amaya Arzuaga is one of Spain’s top young designers, so it’s a sign of London Fashion Week’s new importance in the fashion world that she chose to show her collection here.

Super model Naomi Campbell was first on the catwalk wearing Arzuaga’s Spring/Summer collection for 1998.

The influence of Arzuaga’s Spanish roots could be seen in the choice of a rich passionate red for a number of items.

But other influences can also be seen in her work.

“I really don’t have a concrete inspiration, it’s just a mix of things that I like, that I see on the street, and maybe you can also see that I’m from Spain. But I try to mix everything that I like, not only Spanish or other things.”

As well as the more eye catching outfits, there was plenty in the show for the less adventurous dresser.

There was a large selection of elegant evening wear for women in mixtures of subtle browns and blues.

Men also get the Arzuaga treatment with a selection of casual outfits.

Arzuaga admits that the street fashion of London is an important influence on her work.

(English)
“It’s the place I prefer because of all the young English designers are really good. I’m really happy to be here. It’s the place I prefer in the world is London.”

Top Spanish stars like dancer Joaquim Cortes and actress Rossi De Palma were at the show to support their friend.

The latter part of the show featured a range of subtle pastels and eye catching evening wear that grabbed the audience’s attention.

Naomi Campbell finished off the show wearing another outfit showing the broad range of styles that come together in Arzuaga’s work.

From the reception given to the designer at the end of the show it’s clear that she’s won admirers in Britain, and may lead the way for other European designers to come to London Fashion Week.
