FUNNY: cheapest hair-cut in Nigeria… for under $1 … (African Fashion)

African Fashion: where can you get a cheap haircut in one of the most populous cities in the Africa? Well, under the bridge at a noisy bus-stop, of course! And that’s not all…

“We call this one man, one blade!” says the hairdresser.

The cost is 100 Naira – or 50 Cents, or 50 pence…!

Our BattaBox presenter – Olukayode – shows you round his barbershop: under a bridge at a crowded and noisy bus-stop in Lagos. And all you need is a few simple but essential pieces of equipment: a small mirror, a pair of scissors, comb, a razor blade and a stool to sit down on!

“The glass used to break so I use this,” explains the barber as he points to a mirror the size of a car side mirror stuck on the wall of overhead bridge.

In African Fashion, many women use wigs and weaves for their hair, while most men keep the a closely cropped head of hair. There are of course plenty of expensive hairdressers in Lagos – but this must be the cheapest.

He has been working for three years under the bridge and jokes that working under the bridge will bring in the millions of Naira:

“This place is more profitable – with one glass and a stool – than a shop… We are managing the business, but I’m still trying to keep money.”

In just a few minutes the haircut is finished and Olukayode stand up to check his new style out – “very different, very stylish,” says Olukayode with a worried smile. “Leave your comments below on how I look!”
