Militants kidnapped four Catholic seminarians from Good Shepherd Major Seminary in Northern Nigeria. State Police has confirmed the abduction of the four seminarians. The Registrar of the school Rev Fr. Joel Usman said that the incident happened between 10:30PM and 11:00 PM on January 8th. He requested everyone to pray for the release of the seminarians. The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria posted the pictures of the abducted seminarians on their Facebook page.

On the feast of the Baptism of the Lord, Pope Francis celebrated Mass in the Sistine Chapel and baptized 32 children. The baptized children are sons and daughters of Vatican employees. In his homily, the Holy Father said It is a beautiful sermon when a child cries in church. Pope Francis said that baptism helps children to grow with the power of the Holy Spirit. The tradition of baptizing children in the Sistine Chapel on the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord was started by St. John Paul II.
Apostolic nuncio expresses gratitude
Cardinal Mario Zenari, the apostolic nuncio to Syria has expressed his gratitude to the church in Hungary for financially supporting the Syrian Open Hospital initiative. The Cardinal sent a formal written letter to express his thankfulness. Over 200 million Euros were raised in a donation camp organized in Hungary by the Catholic Bishops Conference in collaboration with the Caritas Syria and AVSI foundation agencies. These funds would be of substantial help in providing free medical aid to the poor in Syria. The initiative was started in 2016 and at present supports 3 hospitals in the country. Over 30,000 people have received treatment as a result of the initiatives in the war-torn country. Cardinal Zenari has been Nuncio to Syria since 2008.
Christendom cancels classes for 46th Annual March for Life
To enable students and teachers to participate in the 47th annual March for Life rally in Washington D.C., Christendom College has declared January 24 as a holiday. Administrative offices in the college shall remain closed. The college would also be providing transportation facilities free of cost to the students and staff to attend the rally. The March for Life is a peaceful and prayerful annual march by men, women, youngsters, and children from across the country to protest against Roe v. Wade, the landmark decision by Supreme Court in 1973 that legalized abortion in all the 50 states. Christendom College students have been very active every year in the pro-life march. The theme of this year’s march is LIFE EMPOWERS: PRO-LIFE IS PRO-WOMAN.
