A FORMER chief scientific adviser has warned the UK is “on the edge of losing control” of coronavirus.
Sir Mark Walport said the only way to stop the virus spreading is to reduce the number of people we all come into contact with, adding that there is an “extremely strong argument” that home working should continue.
Meanwhile health bosses say a Covid-19 app will be launched across England and Wales on September 24.
Health Secretary Matt Hancock described the app’s launch as “a defining moment” and said it will help to contain the virus “at a critical time”.
And Brits are scrambling to return home from Portugal after the country was added back onto the UK’s quarantine list.

Both countries have seen their largest daily case rises since April – the height of the pandemic in Europe.
