This evening officers with the Modesto Police Department were dispatched to Don’s Mobile Glass on H St. in Downtown Modesto, California after being contacted by an alarm company. The alarm company told police that the burglary alarm had been activated from within the business.
Expecting to find a burglary in progress police first surrounded the building. Then they formed an entry team and with a key from a store employee, they entered the business to search for any signs of an intruder.
There were no signs of a burglary or even forced entry found during the search. Police however did notice that the store’s Parrot, a bird kept in a cage in the front showroom, appeared to be in critical condition. First appearing lifeless, when prodded the parrot could not stand on it’s legs and flapped about on it’s back.
An officer opened the cage and scooped the bird into a basket, handing it off to one of the store employees who came to the scene. The employee took the bird to a local veterinary clinic. The current condition of the bird is not yet known however, according to some on the scene who have experience with pet birds, the bird appeared to be in grave condition. They did not expect the bird to survive.
Police determined that there was no burglary at all and that the bird somehow set off the alarm. The bird has lived in the showroom of the business for years, and during it’s time at the business it has not been known to activate false burglary alarms before. It remains unknown how the alarm was activated.
Modesto News .org was there to capture all that unfolded on film.
