The Martian Terror of 1938 and the mass hysteria that followed (….or not)… As horrifying “news” of a Martian invasion in New Jersey hit the radio airwaves, panic struck the US and Orson Welles’s “hoax” was ever etched in our pop culture memory. But was there really any outcry, or was the much-reported “panic” a 1930s version of Fake News? We’ll take a look at the War of the Worlds, and other instances of media-spread disinformation.
