The result saw Ghana finish third in the group, with their earlier performances proving enough to secure a place in the knockout stages.

Reacting after the game, Thomas-Asante told FIFA.com that the team has to take positives from the outcome and prepare adequately for the knockout stages.

“There’s a degree of disappointment in camp. We knew that there was the opportunity to win the group. That was our intention, our ambition, and there was the possibility.

“So, of course, it was disappointing. We haven’t done that, but we have to take the positive, and we’re into the next round. We want to go as far as we can in the tournament.”

Elsewhere, England confirmed the top spot in the group with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Panama at the New York-New Jersey Stadium.

After being frustrated by Panama’s disciplined defence in the opening half, the Three Lions broke the deadlock in the 62nd minute when Bukayo Saka teed up Jude Bellingham, who finished calmly from inside the area.
