Lamine Yamal has insisted Spain will head into their 2026 FIFA World Cup semi-final against France without any fear after La Roja defeated Belgium 2-1 to book their place in the last four.
The Barcelona winger, who was named man of the match in Friday’s quarter-final in Los Angeles, said Spain have every reason to believe they can overcome one of the tournament favourites when they meet in Dallas.
“We don’t fear anyone,” said Yamal.
“It’s clear that we are two great teams, world-class national teams, and for me they are one of the best. We’ll see what happens.”
Spain needed a late winner from substitute Mikel Merino in the 88th minute to settle a gripping match at SoFi Stadium after Belgium became the first side to score against La Roja at the tournament, finding the net shortly before half-time.
France, meanwhile, have been one of the most prolific teams at the World Cup, scoring 16 goals in six matches on their way to the semi-finals.
Spain coach Luis de la Fuente has repeatedly been asked about the prospect of facing France throughout the competition and has consistently praised Les Bleus while backing his own side’s chances.
“Let me be clear: We are not finished,” de la Fuente said. “We are pleased to be in the semifinals, but we want more. … We are capable of winning this game, and not just now, but I would have said this a few weeks ago as well.”
