Record floods reach feet of China's giant buddha statue; odd food saving policy angers citizens

China’s Yangtze River is seeing its biggest flooding in the past 40 years. Almost 2,000 people have been evacuated. And for the first time in decades, floodwater reached a famous giant Buddha statue’s toes.

China’s Belt and Road Initiative involves two-thirds of the world’s population. It could serve as the base for an authoritarian superpower, on land, and in the air.

In a show of force, a US warship sailing through the water between China and Taiwan, and for the first time, crossing the median line of the Taiwan Strait and approaching the Chinese coastline.

And during a visit to an area hit by flood, the head of the Chinese Communist Party, Xi Jinping, visited peasants, but in reality he was received by a police official, disguised as a peasant.
