Ahead of the official commemoration of the 2020 World Tourism Day, renovation works at the Providence Island is well underway, the heritage site is not only being well restored, but when completed the island will serve as a trinket of attraction and a home for massive tourist attraction.

During an assessment tour by the Liberia News Agency (LINA) it was observed that many new features have been added to the facility which will make the place conducive for tourists as well as elements reminiscent of the Trans-Atlantic movement of settled slaves.

The renovation works which is being done by the Government of Liberia through the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism will give the Providence Island a conducive shape at night as the construction team already begun the erection of light poles at the various corners of the island.

The construction of a giant size theatre on the island is another addition that worth commendation as it will subsequently help address the issue of sitting during public events which will be hosted at the island.

Memories of the Ship Elizabeth (known also as Mayflower) will be invoked during the celebration, as a giant size ship to mimic the historical vessel which brought the settlers to the island is nearing completion.

During the tour, the Assistant Minister for Tourism at the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MICAT) Princess Turkolon, told LINA that the aim of the Government is to make Liberia a tourist destination for tourists across the world as part of continuous effort to ensure the growth and development of the country.
