Kay Burley grilled the health secretary on whether the test and trace programme had been rushed in order to take the headlines away from Dominic Cummings’s trip to Durham.

Matt Hancock called the suggestion “priceless”.

He also warned people could be forced to self-isolate if they do not follow the rules voluntarily.
