Boris Johnson has hailed the study of a steroid which cuts Covid-19 deaths as “the biggest breakthrough yet” in the treatment of coronavirus.
A trial by researchers at Oxford University of dexamethasone suggests it is the first drug to reduce deaths from coronavirus.
Scientists found the drug reduced deaths by up to a third among patients on ventilators, and by a fifth for those on oxygen.
Speaking at the Downing Street press conference, the Prime Minister said the drug would now be available across the NHS.
