Brexit latest news – Brexit negotiations ‘will go on even if a deal is not reached by PM’s Oct 15 deadline’

BREXIT negotiations will go ahead, even if a deal has not been reached by Boris Johnson’s deadline.

EU diplomats have said they don’t believe Mr Johnson’s threat to walk out of trade deals if they are not met on October 15.

“Negotiations will continue. It is not a deadline,” a senior EU diplomat said yesterday.

The Prime Minister has insisted a deal must be struck by October 15 in order for it to pass before the end of the Brexit transition period on December 31.

The UK’s chief negotiator, David Frost, reiterated the comments during a parliamentary hearing this week

However a senior EU diplomat this afternoon claimed the deadline was nothing more than bluster and insisted the UK wouldn’t quit talks next Thursday if they were still going well.

“I don’t detect any readiness on the British side to suspend the negotiations. This is going to continue. It is not a deadline,” the diplomat told the Guardian.
