Coronavirus UK news latest – Lockdowns until EASTER under new tier system

PARTS of the UK could see lockdowns until EASTER under the new, tougher three-tier system.

Yesterday Boris Johnson confirmed that the country would return to a three-tier system when the national lockdown expires on December 2.

The tier-sytem is expected to be in place until Easter, by which time a mass vaccination programme is likely to be under way and life will hopefully begin slowly returning to normal.

That timeframe means parts of the country where infections are highest could enter Tier 3 measures after Christmas and remain in a form of local lockdown until Easter, should the local r-rate not fall.

The news comes as Transport Secretary Grant Shapps gave new hope for Brits wanting to go on holiday as he announced the quarantine period for those returning from countries outside the UK travel corridor will be slashed from 14 days to five for those willing to pay £65 for a covid test.
