UK banks are fast closing their high street branches leaving those who are not able to do banking online helpless.
1,879 bank branches have shut or announced their intention to close. That’s an average of around 50 closures announced per month or 12 per week. By the end of June 2025, additional 240 banks will have closed in 2025, with dozens more set to shut in July and August.
In May 2025 alone his month, 69 banks have either already closed or will have shuttered by the end of the month.
There are towns where there no single bank branch anymore. In , the last bank left in Bolton’s second biggest town, Farnworth, which has a population of around 29,000 have shut the only Lloyds bank in the town. Residents will now have to travel elsewhere for in-person banking services.
