UK Immigration Amnesty – Petition Committee ask government to look again at petition. Progress?

This video deals with an update on the amnesty for those in the UK without visas, thank you for all those people who signed the petition, and please can people keep signing it.

The purpose of this video is to provide an update as to the petition, as anyone who watches my channel will know the government responded in a way which I felt did not address the question of why there should not be an amnesty, all the government did was reproduce the same response as before essentially that there was a route for undocumented migrants to get status in the UK and that route was the immigration rules and those people with exceptional circumstances.

I was not alone in considering that this was an inadequate response as I received an email this morning from the petitions committee which is a group of MPs who oversee the petitions and the government’s response and they seem to be of the same mind as me, ie that the government’s response was inadequate and did not address the point of the petition.

Their email states, inter alia:

“The Petitions Committee (the group of MPs who oversee the petitions system) have considered the Government’s response to this petition. They felt that the response did not directly address the request of petition and have therefore written back to the Government to ask them to provide a revised response.
When the Committee have received a revised response from the Government, this will be published on the website and you will receive an email. If you would not like to receive further updates about this petition, you can unsubscribe below.”
So it is good news to some extent that the government has been asked to directly address the petition, rather than trotting out the same response as before.

Now is the time for people to continue to sigh the petition and to ask their MPs to support it or to raise it as an issue in Parliament.

I have done a previous video on this channel on the interplay ibetween Coronavirus and the UK government’s failure – change of heart by the Prime Minister regarding the earned amnesty.

As I have said in my view given that the PBS will not meet the demand for workers post Brexit it makes more sense to regularise those already here.

There is also the current coronavirus pandemic and the shutdown of the UK, it is not in anyone’s interest to have a large number of people, estimates range from 500,000 to 1,000,000 people living under the radar and who may well be frightened to go to the NHS for help in case they will be turned in to the Home Office for enforcement action, though I have read that this is not going to be the case with those who suffer from Covid-19, and who may feel the need to carry on working in circumstances where it is not in their interests or the general public’s interest for them to do so.

As an alternative the Home Office could follow the lead of Portugal and allow those people who are in the UK as migrants to be treated as residents so that they can access the support that is open to those with status and may well go some way to limiting the spread of this awful virus.

This would not go as far as an amnesty but given that the HO seem to be very slow at making decisions and the immigration courts are if not shut then running at a reduced rate to help prevent. the it would allow all those who have an application. Outstanding

Please watch, comment and subscribe. Please let me now your thoughts, I will keep these broadcasts as non political and migrant motivated as long as people watch them. They are not just just sales puff about what a great lawyer I am. If you want to know how good, then google me or read references.
