Imperium Chambers is open throughout the coronavirus crisis. We are following the government’s guidance and are working from home, though we are going to chambers regularly to check post and to see if any decisions are received.
We are currently continuing our current services, we offer conferences, either by Zoom, Skype or by telephone.
We continue to draft and to conduct hearings by telephone.
We have taken the decision to continue to offer our services to our clients at this time of crisis.
There is clearly a need for professional immigration services to remain open, this is the perfect storm, there is the current coronavirus outbreak which is affecting the world, the government is urging people to stay at home to save lives and to protect the NHS and the Upper Tribunal and First Tier Tribunal have introduced new rules which make it much harder to secure an oral hearing.
It is clear that the Tribunal is encouraging people to have their cases decided on the papers – in my view hearings that are decided on the papers are not and never have been a good idea in my view.
However, the Tribunal has issued directions which mean that if the Appellant does not comply with will likely mean that the appeal is going to be heard on the papers.
It will be necessary to have the hearing prepared and ready to go by the time of the CMR, this includes skeleton argument and a bundle and it will need to be uploaded to the Tribunal. There will then be a CMR where representations can be made and if they are not done properly then there is a better chance of the hearing proceeding on the papers.
Therefore we have decided to remain open and that we will be offering our services to those that need it.
