Former Victorian Liberal Party president Michael Kroger says communist China is attempting to “slowly strangle” countries with whom it has weakened relations.
It comes as Australian journalist Matthew Carney reveals his run in with Chinese security forces whilst in the communist country, an episode he had refused to speak publicly about until now.
Mr Carney was an ABC foreign correspondent in Beijing when he reported on China’s imprisonment of up to a million Chinese Muslims in the Xinjiang province.
He revealed that Chinese authorities threatened him and his teenage daughter.
“This is a repressive, brutal, communist regime, this is what they do,” Mr Kroger told Sky News.
He said the communist regime is using all the “brutal, repressive activities and tactics” to cut out particular countries.
“Australia has to have a very good look at its future economic relations with China”.
Sky News host Andrew Bolt said the idea China would get “more democratic and more moderate as it got richer” is utterly wrong.
“It’s now back to a Mao Zedong-style dictatorship, and is so brutal – so unbelievably and shamelessly brutal.”
