A POPULAR fizzy drink available in major UK supermarkets has been urgently recalled over fears the cans could “rupture unexpectedly”.
The trendy soft drink flavour has been pulled from shelves as it could pose a risk of injury.
Dalston’s Soda Company, stocked at Asda and Waitrose, yesterday announced an urgent recall of its pineapple flavour.
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) issued the urgent recall notice on Friday, explaining: “There is a risk that the cans may unexpectedly break apart and leave sharp edges which may cause injury.”
Both the single cans and four-packs are included in the recall notice.
Only the newly-launched pineapple flavour is affected by the “packaging defect” – its popular peach, lemon, rhubarb and more are still available.
The FSA advised shoppers: “To safely dispose of the product; handle the cans as little as possible, place them carefully, upright, in a sealed bag and dispose of them with your household waste.”
Batch codes 037130 and 037129, both best before August 4, 2027, are the only ones affected by the recall.
Affected customers were advised “do not drink it”, and directed to contact Dalston’s Soda Company for a full refund.
The company’s website described the fruity fizzy drink as “all palm trees and sunsets”.
It added: “No added sugar, no sweeteners and no artificial ingredients, it’s the skill of our chefs and the quality of our fruit that gives this fizz its tropical punch.”
The pineapple flavour is now out of stock or unavailable on the company’s own website, as well as at retailers Waitrose and Asda.
