Mamelodi Sundowns defender Grant Kekana has heaped praise on the South African duo of Ime Okon and Mbekezeli Mbokazi for their standout performances at the FIFA World Cup 2026.
Recall that Okon and Mbokazi were ever-present in the Bafana Bafana defence, where they played a key role in helping the team secure its first-ever round of 32 ticket.

South Africa was eliminated from the tournament after suffering a 1-0 defeat to co-hosts Canada in the Round of 32. Stephen Eustaquio scored the game-winning goal in the second minute of stoppage time to end Bafana Bafana’s tournament run.
In a chat with Sowetan, Kekana, who hailed Okon and Mbokazi’s solid partnership in defence, stated that South Africa’s defensive future is secure.
“I love it, shout out to Ime, TLB (Mbokazi) knows, and you can see where our future is going,” Kekana said, as reported by Sowetan.
“This is what we love to see.

“It might have been us before or whatever, but we want the second or third generation to do even better and set the bar.
“That was the world stage; those are two young boys with massive futures.
“One can only wish them the best, and we say keep it up, keep it going.”
