Nicola Sturgeon set to star in a Sky drama playing herself as she steps back into the political limelight

NICOLA Sturgeon will step back into the political limelight when she stars in a TV drama — playing herself.

The former SNP leader — who has kept a low profile since her ex husband Peter Murrell was jailed for embezzling £400,000 of party funds — has been signed up for forthcoming Sky series Wargame.

Sturgeon, 55, will play the UK’s Deputy Prime Minister alongside Michael Gove, 58, as Prime Minister.

They will head up an imaginary Cabinet facing a national crisis.

The four-parter will launch in September and is the television version of the Sky News podcast of the same name — where politicians are asked what they would do if the UK were attacked by Russia.

Like the hit podcast, the TV series will include well-known politicians forming a COBRA-style collection of experts inside a crisis room.

As well as Sturgeon and former Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities Lord Gove, the line-up will include former Tory leadership contender Penny Mordaunt, Labour peer Harriet Harman, Tory peer Sayeeda Warsi and ex Nato Secretary General Lord George Robertson.

Also signed up is former White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci, who was famously sacked by President Donald Trump in 2017.

Phil Edgar-Jones, executive director of Unscripted Originals at Sky said: “We’re bringing The Wargame to a whole new audience in a visceral TV format.

“It will challenge some of the most experienced political and military minds in the country to imagine how they might respond under threat of war.

“At a time when we are facing increasing threats from all sides, this series couldn’t be more timely.”

Set six months in the future, the doomsday scenario will see the senior politicians work with spy chiefs and the armed forces.

They will have to deal with numerous rapidly evolving events relayed via rolling news bulletins, social media footage, military and intelligence reports, and other “unexpected interventions”.

This forces the fictitious Cabinet to make decisions at lightning speed and potentially decide the UK’s fate.
