TOM Cruise’s 20-year-old daughter Suri has ditched her actor father’s surname after over a decade of not seeing one another.
The college student now goes by Suri Noelle – her mother’s middle name – instead, as opposed to Suri Cruise.
Mission Impossible actor Tom and Katie welcomed Suri in 2006, around a year after they began dating – however they divorced in 2012 over irreconcilable differences.
Following the split, Tom has been famously estranged from his daughter – with their last public appearance together in 2012.
Insiders have since claimed that Tom and Suri haven’t seen one another privately in over a decade either – with the source said to be his devotion to the Church of Scientology.
Suri isn’t the only celeb to have a fallout with their parent, as we share some of the biggest family feuds…
VIVIENNE JOLIE
The news comes just days after Brad Pitt’s 18-year-old daughter legally dropped his surname in favour of her mother, Angelina Jolie’s name – following in the footsteps of her siblings.
Vivienne, who is the youngest daughter of the Hollywood star, 62, and his ex-wife Angelina Jolie, 51, has filed to legally drop her actor dad’s last name.
Vivienne follows in the footsteps of her older siblings, and her twin Knox, who have also taken action to do the same.
According to court documents seen by the Daily Mail, the reason behind Vivienne’s surname change is listed as “personal”.
A source told People: “He [Brad] has virtually no contact with the adult kids. His engagement with the younger kids is more limited in recent months because of his filming schedule.”
GEORGE SAMPSON
After winning Britain’s Got Talent at age 14 in 2008, breakdancer George Sampson became an overnight millionaire.
But due to his young age, his finances were managed by his mother, Lesley.
George used part of his £100,000 prize money to buy a house after winning the show, which is in Lesley’s name.
He then splashed out on another property when he turned 18, which his mum lived in – but refused to leave.
At the time, a source said: “The first house George bought is in Lesley’s name – as he was underage when he bought it – and she collects the rent from that.
“She has also been living in the second property. But George has now decided he wants it back, and he asked her politely to leave this year.
“Unfortunately, she doesn’t want to and they are now due in court to fight it out.”
MEGHAN MARKLE
The rift between Meghan Markle and her father, Thomas Markle, dramatically erupted in May 2018, just days before her wedding to Prince Harry.
The breakdown began when it was exposed that Thomas had staged photographs with a paparazzi agency.
Following the public scandal and a reported heart attack, Thomas pulled out of walking his daughter down the aisle on 19 May 2018.
Despite Thomas giving numerous television interviews appealing for contact, the pair remain completely estranged, with Thomas thought to have never met Prince Harry or his two grandchildren.
Last year, Thomas told the Mail: “I’ve always said I am open to reconciling with my daughter. I have never stopped loving her.
“I don’t want to die estranged from Meghan. I want to meet my grandkids. It might be nice to meet her husband too.”
ADELE
Growing up, the Hello singer had a complex relationship with dad Mark Evans, who left mum Penny Adkins when Adele was three and moved back to his native Wales.
But the strained relationship reached breaking point as Adele rose to fame and she was furious, in 2011, when Mark gave a magazine interview about her.
The pair didn’t speak for over a decade but, thankfully, they were reconciled before his tragic death from cancer, in May 2021, at the age of 57.
She told Vogue her own 2019 divorce from Simon Konecki helped her understand her parents’ split.
“We actually got our peace,” she said.
“I played him my album just a week before he passed, over Zoom. One thing that definitely happened in my divorce was that it humanised my parents for me. Big time. I went to hell and back!
“And in that I found the peace to forgive him. He was ready to go and he lasted a long time with it. So thank you.”
JIMMY CARR
Jimmy Carr’s dad sued his own son for defamation after a feud lasting two decades reached new heights.
Jim Carr Snr is said to be “sick and tired” of “false characterisation” by the 8 Out Of 10 Cats host.
The pair haven’t spoken since the death of Jimmy’s mum Nora, in 2001, and Jimmy told a podcast: “I haven’t seen my dad in 21 years and you know the line, ‘My mother’s dead and my father’s dead to me’ – which sounds very cold, until you meet the guy.”
But the comments, along with a recently published memoir, drove Jim to seek legal action.
“I know it’s fashionable nowadays not to get on with your father, but Jim’s had enough of the lies,” a source told the Mirror.
FRANCES BEAN COBAIN
Rockstar Kurt Cobain’s daughter Frances Bean Cobain filed a restraining order against her mum Courtney Love in 2009, after the pair got into a physical fight.
In an uncovered testimony, Frances reportedly said: “[Love] has taken drugs for as long as I can remember.
“She basically exists now on…Xanax, Adderall, Sonata and Abilify, sugar and cigarettes.
“She rarely eats… She often falls asleep in her bed while she is smoking, and I am constantly worried that she will start a fire (which she has done at least three times) that will threaten our lives.”
Kurt’s mother, Wendy, and his sister, Kimberley, were given temporary guardianship of Frances during their six-year feud, before they made amends.
BROOKLYN BECKHAM
Brooklyn Beckham caused a stir earlier this year when he released a bombshell six-page statement on Instagram on January 20 confirming his estrangement from David and Victoria Beckham.
In his statement, he accused his famous parents of manipulating media narratives to preserve “Brand Beckham”.
Brooklyn claimed his family consistently disrespected his wife, Nicola Peltz, claiming they warned him the night before their April 2022 wedding that she was “not blood family”.
Amongst several wedding allegations, he alleged that Victoria cancelled designing Nicola’s dress at the eleventh hour and later hijacked the couple’s planned romantic first dance at the reception.
Furthermore, he alleged his parents repeatedly tried to bribe and pressure him prior to the nuptials into signing over the rights to his own name to protect their commercial empire.
Brooklyn concluded by stating he had no desire to reconcile after David refused to meet him without Nicola present during David’s 50th birthday in May 2025, adding that his lifelong anxiety had finally disappeared since cutting ties.
MACAULAY CULKIN
Home Alone star Macaulay Culkin fell out with his dad Kit Culkin when he split up with his mum Patricia in 1995.
There was a bitter legal battle about who would get custody of Macaulay and his siblings, and his mum Patricia won.
There were even rumours Kit had been stealing money from his son – and the pair never reconciled.
After suffering a huge stroke in 2014 and not hearing from Macaulay, Kit admitted his relationship with his son was well and truly over.
“I don’t consider him a son anymore,” he said.
ARIEL WINTER
Modern Family star Ariel Winter no longer speaks to her mother after being officially emancipated from her in 2015.
Ariel claimed she was “emotionally and physically abusive” towards her, and so her sister Shanelle has been her guardian since 2012.
“I don’t really talk about the reason that I don’t speak to my mother”, she said earlier this year. “It’s kind of been publicised, but the reason I don’t really share that is because I want to give her the same respect that she didn’t give to me publicly.
“It has been very sad for me, but at the same time it’s been much better for me emotionally and physically to be on my own and have a better, safer household and support system.”
