A SHAMELESS mum Googled “why is my toddler bleeding” as she smoked a cigarette while her daughter lay dying.
Isabelle Rose Welsh suffered a catastrophic brain injury at the hands of Alexandra Walker and her boyfriend Harrison Simpson.
Just two at the time, Isabella was subjected to a campaign of abuse that left her with 21 broken bones before her death in September last year.
She had also been sexually assaulted.
Walker and Simpson have now been jailed for life with a minimum of 22 years and 28 years respectively after being convicted of murder.
Simpson was also found guilty of sexual abuse of a child, while both were convicted of child cruelty at Teesside Crown Court.
The day the toddler died, Simpson was the one looking after her – he put her to bed and left at 3pm, jurors were told.
The court heard that within 10 minutes, Walker had Googled: “Why would my toddler be bleeding?” while smoking.
The 25-year-old was heard calling Isabelle’s name on CCTV and saying “you’re scaring me” as she lay dying, it was said.
Video footage of the horror has now been shared, showing the moment Walker paces back and forth in her kitchen as her daughter lies dying.
She can be seen leaning against a window, smoking her cigarette in the moments after her daughter received fatal injuries.
Walker then disappears from sight, walking away from the window where she can be seen in the reflection before appearing again – still smoking her cigarette.
Isabelle’s grandmother Claire Walker had become “seriously worried” about the youngster’s deteriorating health during the final days of her life.
She described her granddaughter as looking “white as a sheet” and had messaged her daughter asking whether she could pick up supplies for Isabelle from Asda.
Walker replied: “Ten cans of Stella for my stress and nappies.”
Claire told police the toddler was chatty and intelligent and had generally been in good health.
This was until she sustained a broken leg for which she received hospital treatment, Claire said.
When Isabelle was sent home from the hospital her grandmother visited and spotted a bruise on the tot’s back.
Further heartbreaking footage showed the tot before she was murdered running around the garden clutching a red witch’s hat.
Days later, Isabelle was found collapsed at the foot of the stairs covered in bruises, with “no pulse and plainly gravely ill.”
Jurors heard she had been violently shaken and slammed against a “hard, unyielding” surface on September 13 last year before passing away in hospital in the early hours of the following morning.
On the day of her daughter’s death, Walker only called 999 after being told to do so by her stepfather “long after she must have known her daughter was critically ill”, it was said.
A post mortem revealed Isabelle had suffered a catalogue of injuries – including 21 broken bones and 97 soft-tissue injuries.
She had internal tears from violent sexual assaults and there was evidence from a pathologist to say she appeared to have been swung by a limb, the court heard.
Both Walker and Simpson denied murder, allowing the death of a child, sexual assault and child cruelty but were both found guilty.
